Come Birding With The Curio Cat On Global Big Day 2023!
Join the Curio Cat Conservation Team Saturday, May 13th, 2023 on a birding walk to kick off our first annual Global Big Day participation! Global Big Day is a yearly birding event that takes place on World Migratory Bird Day and celebrates all the birds around you. It also helps conservationists and researchers study bird migration habits and patterns.
This year’s theme is WATER – and the importance of water to all our migratory (and non-migratory) feathered friends! Birds use our inland and coastal wetlands, rivers, lakes, streams, marshes, and ponds for feeding, drinking, or nesting, and also as places to rest and refuel during their long journeys. So the location of our first annual birding walk will be the San Joaquin Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine, California.
Our resident birder and professional photographer, Hannah, will take you on a guided walk as you seach for native and migratory bird species along the trails, marshes, and ponds. The trail is approximately 2.5 miles long, mostly flat, and consists of gravel or natural soil/rocks. We recommend sturdy hiking shoes, as well as sunscreen since shade is limited. Bring binoculars, camera, or both! Hannah will have a couple of pairs of binoculars to share as well.
You’ll also have the opportunity to meet our AI expert and hear how AI mapping technology can be used to predict and preserve bird habitats!
You have the option of joining our birding team for this year’s Global Big Day – the Curio Cat Conservation Team. Find our team information here. If you’re interested, more information will be provided onsite, but this is not required to join our walk.
